Guidelines for Chinese Drywall Renovation - Seriously Flawed or Fraud?
Definition: White·Wash ,- anything, as deceptive words or actions, used to cover up or gloss over faults, errors, or wrongdoings, or absolve a wrongdoer from blame.
New Guidelines for Chinese Drywall remediation released March 16, 2011 by The National Association of Home Builders conflict with recommendations made last year by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and omits key research on hydrogen sulfide conducted by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, considered one of the best laboratories nationwide.
In an interview conducted by the Herald -Tribune, the head of Sarasota-based Foreman Associates, a member of the American Society for Testing Materials committee examining the drywall, said;
“I was really shocked when I read some of this,” said Foreman. “A lot of it feels like a whitewash, as if it’s designed to push the kind of testing that will not give back troublesome results.”
According to the Herald - Tribune, Dr. Barbara Manis, with Maryland-based Building Health Sciences Inc. — hired by NAHB to produce the report — said her team had reviewed the LBNL studies, but thought the Knauf-commissioned tests would be more useful for the association audience. "It was not an attempt to minimize" the LNBL research, she said.
The Knauf tests were commissioned by Chinese manufacturer, Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Co.
